Guinness World Records has confirmed that China's newly opened Hengqin Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is the world's largest aquarium. Located in the Guangdong Province of China, the aquatic theme park has seven themed areas, each representing a different part of the ocean. The waters at Hengqin Chimelong Ocean Kingdom total 12.87 million gallons of salt and fresh water. In addition to being recognized as the largest aquarium in the world, the park also has the world's largest underwater viewing dome, aquarium tank, aquarium window and acrylic panel. The theme park officially opened last month and is part of the Chimelong Hengqin Bay Hotel, the largest ocean ecological-themed hotel in China. Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is home to a plethora of massive whale sharks, dolphins, sharks and rare fish.

Forbidden City to Regulate Visitor Numbers

Located in the heart of Beijing, the Palace Museum – also known as the Forbidden City – was home to China's emperors and was the highest center of power for approximately 500 years. It attracts more than 14 million visitors annually. Starting this summer, the Forbidden City will enact measures to regulate visitation in order to allow time for renovations and restoration of the Palace's architecture and cultural relics.

The year 2020 will mark the former imperial palace's 600th anniversary, and the Palace Museum is working to have the site ready for the occasion. Earlier this year the Museum started Monday closures for renovations and maintenance. This will continue throughout 2014, except for the months of July and August.

Additional regulation of visitor numbers will also allow the Museum time to renovate the Imperial Garden, remold underground storehouses, and rebuild some of the infrastructure.
